On a recent visit to UK, Kannegiesser Chairman, Martin Kannegiesser met the entire UK staff over two days - first at the Kendal, Cumbria, plant and then at the Banbury, location - where the company's plans for the future development of the Kannegiesser business were presented.
Of most interest to the Kendal staff was the announcement that the production of the Supertrack Monorail System would be transferred to a new site in the Banbury area as soon as the arrangements could be made for a manufacturing start-up.
All affected staff based in Kendal were offered the opportunity to transfer to Banbury should they so wish. Mr Kannegiesser was clear in his statement to the workforce in Kendal: 'We at Kannegiesser need your skills and we will assist you in any way we can with transferring to Banbury. We have a high regard for the quality of the work which is produced here and although we considered a transfer of the Supertrack manufacture to Germany we rejected that approach because the collective knowledge and skill is in UK with the present workforce.'
At the Banbury location Mr Kannegiesser repeated the Kendal news of the move of Supertrack production and announced that agreement had been reached for the lease of a suitable manufacturing building on the Beaumont Road Industrial Estate, all Kannegiesser operations currently based in Banbury will move to the new building when the necessary conversion work has been completed and expected to be late summer 2012. The whole process will take place gradually over the next year.
The new offices will be inside a manufacturing space which is 84 metres long and 24 metres wide with double high-bay doors and a height to the eaves of 8 metres. Containing approx 23000 square feet of factory space and with approx 13000 square feet on ground and first floor of offices, the production area houses both a 10 Tonne crane and a 5 Tonne crane; additionally there is approx 6,000 square feet of basement space.
The Thermopatch UK division, manufacture of the Revolution Continuous Roll Towel processing machine and associated production staff will remain in Kendal.
